A lot of people would consider where I grew up "Backwoods." Heck, for a lot of my life I did. I felt like a strange outsider - a hopeless city slicker - trapped in a world of cow pastures and cotton gins.
But you know what? I've come to appreciate my country upbringing. Just as I reluctantly grew to adore a good country song now and then.
I adore my hometown... the one with two stoplights and one very popular Sonic... and I think that might be why I like Waco so much.
It has its own Wal-Mart, sure. And a "shopping mall" even. But its roots are country, I'd say. And that's something I can dig.
Dirt roads, southern drawls and sweet tea... those are the things helping me beat this unbearable Summer heat...
I roll down my windows, and crank up my country, and pray for a bit of a traffic jam... the tractor induced kind of course.
